Kövér Béla Puppet Theatre

This season our Puppet Theater has turned 75 years old.
In 1946, an idea of entertain the audience with puppetry to forget the horrors of war was born. One of these founders was Béla Kövér, who led the Theater with amateur members, until his death in 1994. His son, László Kövér took his place. Under his leadership, the company has evolved from enthusiastic amateurs to professionals. László Kövér has retired in 2020, and Ágnes Kiss took over the management, with artistic director Jankó Schneider.
With this new management, the Puppet Theater will place more emphasis on developing cooperation with other puppet theaters and Szeged's institutions. Today the company has 18 employees and currently employs 8 actors. The new leadership opens up not only to children and families, but also to adults and the elderly. We have one guest adult performance per month in our repertoire, in addition to our own children's performances. In recent years, environmental protection has also become more important in the real life of the company: we plant seedlings in a kindergarden or school in the city before our own premiers.
Overall, the new management of our cultural institution will initiate a more open communication with the city's events, cultural life, and those living in the region, and other puppet theaters in the country.
