Programs in August

Szeged, the city of sunshine awaits visitors with several exciting programs even in the last month of the summer.

The Dóm tér is full of people as the Szeged Open Air Festival 2018 is still running. It lasts until the end of August, when the Sister Act and The Bourgeois Gentleman are on.

Those who like theatre and classical music can chose from the programs of the Musical Court at the Town Hall’s Courtyard or the programs of THEALTER in the Studio Theatre and the Old Synagogue. The chamber concerts of the Musical Court also offer other genre besides classical music.

If you would like to get away from the city noise, the Botanical Garden of the University of Szeged is the best place to go, offering a real experience close to nature for visitors. A really special program awaits visitors at the first weekend of August at the XI. Lotus Days. The well-known oriental charm is evoked by dance, music, flavors and fragrances.

On 9 August the Széchenyi tér is full of life again as the Hungarikum festival starts, where about one hundred exhibitors offer their products for the visitors. Besides wine and pálinka, participants can also taste such traditional Hungarian food as the chimney cake, pie, strudel or lángos and other gastronomic wonders of the Hungarian cuisine.

The citizens of Szeged pay special attention to preserve the traditions of beer. Nothing proves it better than the fact that August 20, the national holiday is celebrated in the company of the best Hungarian craft beers at the Quay festival. The Huszár Mátyás Quay is closed from traffic and the festival starts with a fair, delicious snacks, concerts and the inevitable fireworks at midnight.

At the end of August, the Szeged Youth Days (SZIN) is organized and it celebrates its 50th anniversary. On this occasion well-known international stars perform on the stages of SZIN such as Sean Paul, Jess Glynne and the Pet Shop Boys. Several famous Hungarian artists will also give concerts at the Szegedi Partfürdő from 22 to 25 August!

The last days of summer end with the traditional International Tisza Fish Festival at Huszár Mátyás Quay from 31 August to 2 September.
