Programs in autumn

October is in full swing and the city is slowly putting on its colorful, autumn dress. However, despite the cooler weather, the city of sunshine provides several programs and opportunities of relaxation.

Dimensions, the visual arts and applied arts exhibition of the Hungarian Artists National Association, has arrived in the Reök Palace. As its name suggests, the creations take visitors into different dimensions. The exhibition can be visited until 17 November.

On the last Saturday of October, during the Downtown guided tour we discover Szeged in its beautiful autumn colors. We get to know the buildings, squares and avenues of the city of palaces reconstructed within a few years after the great flood in 1879. We take a walk in Széchenyi tér, we will see the wonderful city hall and the bridge of sighs. We will shed some light on some exciting facts, such as why the statue of Lajos Kossuth stands in Klauzál tér? What or who is Kárász utca named after, how long has been Queen Elizabeth of Hungary looking at the theatre wistfully, when will the marble violin of Pista Dankó play music, and what is the vow that led to the building of the church?

The Pumpkin Saturday is also organized on 26th October, similar to past years, in 2019 also held in Szent István tér. In the shadow of the Old Lady, exciting programs await families with pumpkin carving, pumpkin lanterns, crafts for kids, fair and concerts.

Several exciting programs await nature lovers in autumn. An important stop of bird migration is the Fehér-tó (White Lake) in Szeged. Organizers await visitors on 26 and 27 October for the autumn crane lurking, that starts at Tisza-Valley Exhibition House and ends at the most ideal spot of the lake at sunset, where we will wait for the arrival of the cranes.

On the last day of October, Halloween in the zoo, which is already a tradition, awaits children and adults with exciting, entertaining and last but not least creepy programs.

The Szeged Jazz Days, nearly 50 years old, founded by local musicians to make jazz music more popular, is held on 7 and 8 November. Every year colorful program awaits jazz lovers, who can enjoy the concerts of Hungarian and foreign jazz musicians. In 2019 the performing artists are Charles Tovellier, Buster Williams and Lenny White, and we cannot miss the outstanding representative of the Hungarian music life, Félix Lajkó.

It is a real experience to walk among the downtown palaces of Szeged, because we can see the works of the masters of Hungarian Art Nouveau. We discover these architectural masterpieces on 9 November within the Art Nouveau beauties of Szeged downtown guided tour.

The Cookie Walk is held on 30 November, where we trace famous pastry chefs and sweets merchants from the past and present, and the walk ends with cookie making in the cookie workshop of Bulikonyha (Party Kitchen).
