Seinen Namen bekam der Platz, der sich von der József Attila Radialstraße abzweigt, von der ehemaligen Sankt Georg Kirche mit demselben Namen. Sie stand einst in Richtung der Radialstraße und wurde ca. im 18. Jahrhundert erbaut. Nach der Türkenzeit wurde die Kirche renoviert und im 19. Jahrhundert als Schule umgebaut. Letzendlich wurde sie im Jahre 1907 abgerissen.
