Szent István Square water tower open on this weekend

A beautifully landscaped recreation park and an industrial history curiosity, the country’s first reinforced concrete water tower, welcome visitors to St Stephen’s Square. The tower, which can hold 1004.8 m3 of water, was designed by Szilárd Zielinski and built in 1904. It was built entirely of reinforced concrete, with no exceptions such as the entrance door and the 54.9 m high flagpole. Inside the tower, which was renovated in 2006, hangs a Foucault gin to prove that the Earth rotates on its axis. The tower is surrounded by busts of seven famous architects who have had a major influence on the urban landscape of Szeged.

The tower can be visited by buying a ticket. You can buy tickets on the spot.

Date: 22-23 February 2025, Saturday-Sunday between 11 am and 4 pm.
