The building of the school was built in 1914.
It worked as a military hospital during World War I, and from 1921 it also served as a medical chemistry institute at the University of Szeged.
Between 1930 and 1935, Albert Szent-Györgyi lived and worked in this building. In the autumn of 1932, he showed the content of vitamin C in peppers in this building. Thus, the Déri school building is the birthplace of vitamin C.
The memorial room furnished with contemporary furniture, laboratory equipment, and relics, was built in the wing where Albert Szent-Györgyi lived. The corridor leading to the cult place is decorated with portraits of Nobel laureates of Hungarian descent and Szent-Györgyi-related pictures.
