Nice has a population of 340.000. It has been a popular holiday resort to citizens and monarchs for centuries. Thanks to the great transport network, the city also has an international airport. The Paris-Nice direct train also makes the access to the city easier. Among its several cultural events, the most outstanding is the Nice Carnival, first held in 1294.
