The St. Gellert International Music Festival was founded in 2008 by Swiss composer and conductor Robert Bachmann together with László Kiss-Rigó, Bishop of Szeged-Csanád.

The primary objective of the festival from the beginning was to ensure that Szeged was not left out of the European music scene, to bring such musical experiences to Szeged audience that are increasingly celebrated in global music metropolises such as Vienna, Amsterdam or London.

The festival is organized by the Diocese of Szeged-Csanád every autumn, in connection with the feast day (24 September 24) of the martyr Saint Gellért, the first bishop of the diocese.

The concerts held at the Our Lady of Hungary Cathedral (Dóm) and the Szeged Dóm Visitors Center feature such classical music rarities that further enrich the rich musical life of the city.

The concerts can be visited FREE, except for the charity concert held every year, which can be attended by purchasing a supporter ticket.
