Vilmos Zsigmond (1930–2016), the world-renowned Hungarian-born Oscar-winning cinematographer, was born in Szeged. The film festival named in his honor celebrates this legacy by showcasing cinematographers and putting the quality of cinematography in the spotlight.
A key goal of the festival is to draw attention to one of filmmaking’s most important collaborators—the cinematographer—and to highlight the significance of their work, while also providing opportunities for emerging filmmakers to present their work.
Submissions to the festival are primarily judged on innovative cinematography, although the jury also considers the overall artistic quality of the film.
The festival takes place from May 13–17 and features competitions in four categories: feature films, short films, documentaries, and music videos. In addition, the program includes pre-screening events, outdoor screenings, and during the festival, professional workshops, filmmaker–audience discussions, and masterclasses.
Hungarian films are showcased as part of the Hungarian Cinematographers’ Week. The organizers also provide opportunities for student film workshops to participate.
The detailed program will be announced soon!
