The Saint Gellért International Classical Music Festival was founded in 2008 by Swiss composer and conductor Robert Bachmann, in collaboration with Bishop László Kiss-Rigó of the Szeged-Csanád Diocese. Their goal was to enrich Szeged—already a city with a vibrant classical music culture—with a new dimension of classical music.
Later, Yoon Kuk Lee was appointed as the festival’s Artistic Director, thanks to his widely recognized career as a conductor. Under his leadership, the festival aimed to place Szeged on the map of Europe’s leading classical music cities, bringing musical experiences to the local audience that are increasingly celebrated in cities like Vienna, Amsterdam, and London. Over the years, the festival has also placed special emphasis on showcasing young talent, featuring both domestic and international artists.
The festival is organized every autumn by the Szeged-Csanád Diocese, in connection with the feast of the diocese’s first bishop, the martyr Saint Gellért (September 24).
All concerts are free to attend, except for the annual charity concert, which requires a ticket purchase to support the event.
The full festival program and further information will be announced soon!
