The Szőreg Rose Festival is one of Szeged’s most significant and long-standing flower celebrations, held every June in the Szőreg district, often referred to as the “homeland of roses.” With a history spanning several decades, the event aims to celebrate the renowned rose cultivation of Szőreg, which is widely recognized across Europe, while also presenting the culture, beauty and community-building power of the rose.
During the Rose Festival, the streets and squares of Szőreg are decorated with flowers: rose compositions, fragrances and vibrant colors create a unique atmosphere throughout the district. Local residents warmly welcome visitors who share their passion for roses and wish to take part in this special community celebration. The event also offers an excellent opportunity for visitors to learn more about the daily work of rose growers. Guests can gain insight into the life of the rose fields around Szőreg, the careful and highly skilled processes involved in cultivation, and this demanding yet remarkably beautiful traditional craft.
One of the main venues of the program is the István Tömörkény Cultural House, where visitors can see a spectacular exhibition of live roses showcasing the most beautiful varieties cultivated by local growers. The highlight of the celebration is the spectacular rose parade, where horse-drawn carriages, cars and bicycles richly decorated with roses pass through the main streets of Szőreg, offering an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.
