The Musical Courtyard is one of the most charming and intimate cultural events of Szeged’s summer season. The series was founded in 1970 as a complementary program to the Szeged Open-Air Festival, and since then it has remained an integral part of it, offering musical experiences on warm summer evenings. While the monumental productions of the Open-Air Festival fill the vast spaces of Dóm Square and the Újszeged Open-Air Stage, the Musical Courtyard presents the more intimate and personal side of music.
The concerts take place in the historic Neo-Baroque courtyard of the Szeged City Hall, a protected architectural monument that provides an ideal setting for high-quality musical programs thanks to its unique acoustics and elegant surroundings. With a capacity of 250–300 guests, the courtyard creates a special closeness between performers and audience, offering a rare experience for both artists and listeners.
The Musical Courtyard’s program mainly focuses on classical music and high-quality light music productions. The performers regularly include outstanding Hungarian musicians, chamber ensembles, soloists, as well as lighter concerts that perfectly match the atmosphere of summer evenings.
