The Szent István Square Water Tower will be open to visitors again on Saturday

A beautifully landscaped park and a unique piece of industrial heritage – Hungary’s first reinforced concrete water tower – welcome visitors at Szent István Square.

Designed by Szilárd Zielinski and completed in 1904, the tower has a capacity of 1,004.8 cubic metres of water. Remarkably, the entire structure was built of reinforced concrete, including the entrance door and the flagpole rising to a height of 54.9 metres.

Inside the tower, which was renovated in 2006, visitors can see a Foucault pendulum, demonstrating the Earth’s rotation on its axis. Surrounding the tower are busts of seven distinguished architects and engineers whose work significantly influenced the development of Szeged’s cityscape.

From May to September, the Water Tower is open to visitors on the first Saturday of each month, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

On these days, visitors may enter without prior registration and explore both the tower and the exhibitions housed within it.
