The Szőreg Rose Festival is one of Szeged’s most significant flower festivals with the richest traditions, held every June in the Szőreg district, known as the “home of roses”. With a history spanning several decades, the event aims to celebrate Szőreg’s rose cultivation, which is known and recognised throughout Europe, while also presenting the culture, beauty and community-building power of the rose.
The festival is held every June in Szőreg, in connection with the more than one-hundred-year-old tradition of rose cultivation. During this time, the district bursts into bloom, while its streets and squares fill with programmes, visitors and community events. The event is at once a professional gathering, a community celebration and a summer festival. One of the most special experiences during the festival is visiting the rose fields. In the rose fields around Szőreg, several hundred thousand blooming rose bushes can be seen in their full splendour. Visitors can learn about the process of rose cultivation and gain insight into the everyday work of local growers.
The programme includes cultural and entertainment events, exhibitions, family activities and community programmes. The aim of the festival is to present Szőreg’s rose culture, the traditions of rose cultivation and the community life of the district. Held at the beginning of summer, the Rose Festival attracts many visitors to Szőreg every year. The sight of the blooming rose fields, together with the programmes and community events, creates the festival’s truly special atmosphere.
