June 6. – 16:00 - June 8. – 23:00

Event Navigation

The Szeged IGF is the longest running and one of the most important guitar events in Hungary, bringing together outstanding guitar artists and colourful programmes from all over the world. The event offers recreation, excitement or useful information in 4 categories:
Entertainment for a wide range of guitar enthusiasts, limited only by imagination. A wide range of musical styles, from classical, world or popular music to surprising combinations with other artistic genres. The venues for these events can be concert halls, bars, churches or even the comfort of your armchair at home, thanks to live webcasting.

Interactive guitar lessons for amateurs, students and children, who can learn from renowned musicians.
Exciting, public competition with young classical guitar stars from the world’s top, plus a showcase, masterclass for them
Networking opportunities, workshops for curious professionals (musicians, managers, festival promoters, music institute managers, producers, music journalists)
Since 2018 Szeged IGF is part of EuroStrings, the first European classical guitar festival cooperation, a multi-year project with 17 festivals from Croatia, Finland, UK, Germany, Austria, Italy, Netherlands, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Spain, Portugal, Estonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Netherlands and Portugal.

Based on a professional structure, the collaboration provides promotion and educational opportunities for emerging guitarists, sharing artists, events and Europe’s premier guitar event between participating festivals. The main aim is to help young stars to develop their careers on the international stage, to strengthen the European market and to create a modern, stable classical guitar scene in cooperation with the rest of the world.

The Szeged IGF is proud to have contributed to the promotion of classical guitar in Hungary from the very first years of the festival with sold-out concerts and significant media interest. The festival was founded in 1999 by guitarist and composer Dávid Pavlovits. He himself has performed in more than 30 countries, visiting such cult venues as Carnegie Hall in New York, Montreal, Moscow, Ankara and Shanghai. As an associate professor at the Faculty of Music of the University of Szeged, he brings together one of the most popular and successful classical guitar communities in the country. Many of the winners of the Virtuosi classical music talent contest were his students.

The Szeged IGF supports young stars with a strong professional background, scholarship programmes and performance opportunities at the festival.
The aim was not only to create a long-lasting tradition, but also to bring internationally renowned stars to the audience in and around Szeged. Over the years we have invited renowned artists from 31 countries on 5 continents.
