Ice Age Man

Ice Age Man

The Ice Age Man exhibition can be seen at the Móra Ferenc Museum until 21 June 2026. The exhibition presents tens-of-thousands-year-old knapped stone tools as well as objects made from elk and reindeer bones. Visitors can also discover the fascinating story of the Altamira Cave and even relax among its reconstructed walls.

The exhibition The Ice Age Man displays objects dating from 10,000 to 40,000 years ago, found at archaeological sites in France and Hungary. Among the items on view are knapped stone tools and artifacts made from reindeer and elk bones. Visitors can learn about the burial customs of Neanderthals, as well as the everyday life and habits of people living during the Ice Age. With the help of a tent reconstruction, the exhibition also shows the conditions in which our ancestors lived many tens of thousands of years ago.

Art also plays an important role in the exhibition. Alongside Venus and animal figurines, visitors are given insight into the secrets of the Altamira Cave. The circumstances of the cave’s discovery are revealed, and the background and interpretation of the paintings found on its walls are explained. A symbolic reconstruction has also been created: visitors can admire the famous Altamira bison while relaxing in beanbag chairs, and children can crawl into a mini-cave and decorate its walls.
