The exhibition space presents a selection of musically and literarily inspired graphic works by Kass János. Through the featured graphic series, visitors gain insight into the artist’s distinctive intellectual and visual world, where the fine arts engage in a close dialogue with literature and music. The exhibition showcases visual interpretations of major works such as The Tragedy of Man, Hamlet, Bluebeard’s Castle, and Psalmus Hungaricus, all seen through Kass János’s unique artistic vision.
The Kass Galéria opened in 1985 in Vár Street, Szeged. The building is owned by the City of Szeged and operated by the Móra Ferenc Múzeum. Its walls house approximately eight hundred graphic works by the Szeged-born, Kossuth and Munkácsy Prize-winning artist Kass János, donated as a significant part of his artistic legacy to the city of Szeged.
Following an expansion in 1991, the gallery became able to host temporary exhibitions in addition to the permanent Kass collection, thus providing space for contemporary fine artists as well. After being closed since the Covid pandemic, the institution reopened on 21 June 2025 during the Night of Museums, following renovation and repainting. With the reopening, the permanent exhibition once again became accessible to visitors, presenting the defining series and individual graphic works of Kass János in a setting worthy of his artistic legacy.
