Makó

During this period a lot of small villages have come closer to this area. In the 14th-15th century Makó came to life after the fusion of these small, populated areas and the newly formed location went through many development stages. In the 15th century Makó became the trade center of agricultural products in this part of Hungary.
Makó became famous during the 18th century when the characteristic onion of Makó has been established, with its unique flavor, long shelf life, bone-white flesh, red-bronze skin and high solid content; it has become a popular product.
In Makó – uniquely in our country – ten public buildings and two public squares are designed by the architect Makovecz Imre. The special organic-style spaces represent ideological and aesthetic value. For those who are interested in these structures, the Makovecz tour presents the city center in a 2-hour long trip on foot.
The famous architect’s outstanding opus in Makó, the “Hagymatikum Bath”, is made unique and characteristic by its vast internal spaces. An exclusive sauna section, leisure pools, children’s world and playhouse await the families and those who wish to rest. The medicinal waters of Makó and the medicinal mud of River Maros, which eases rheumatic pains, have an unmatched combination which helps to preserve the health of guests and ensures their regeneration.
On the beautiful coast of river Maros, flood forests with valuable flora and fauna can be found which have been preserved in their natural state. Kayaking, cycling and hiking tour fans may get to known the surroundings on various hiking trails. The discovery of flora and fauna is supported by an educational trail called the “Tree Crown”. In addition to this, one may spend active free time on the Great Plains’ newest, 29-task long Adventure Coast and the funicular railway which is ten meters high, offering a special experience above river Maros.
