September 21 – October 4, 2026

The St. Gerard International Music Festival is one of Szeged’s most outstanding classical music events, enriching the city’s cultural life every autumn. The festival was founded in 2008 by the Swiss composer and conductor Robert Bachmann and László Kiss-Rigó, Bishop of the Diocese of Szeged–Csanád, with the aim of adding a new international dimension to Szeged’s already vibrant classical music scene.
The artistic direction was later taken over by conductor Yoon Kuk Lee, whose widely recognized career and international network have given significant momentum to the festival’s development. Under his leadership, the event aims to secure Szeged a prominent place on the map of European classical music and to offer the audience productions of a quality that are equally celebrated in leading musical centers such as Vienna, Amsterdam, or London.
The festival is organized each year by the Diocese of Szeged–Csanád, connected to the September 24 feast day of St. Gerard, the diocese’s first bishop and a martyr. The vast majority of concerts are free to attend, making high-quality classical music accessible to a broad audience. The only exception is the annual charity concert, which can be attended by purchasing a supporter’s ticket.
