Katalin Karikó’s journey to the Nobel Prize and beyond – permanent exhibition

The Nobel portrait plaque representing Katalin Karikó’s Nobel Prize can be seen on permanent display in the exhibition space of the Attila József Study and Information Center of SZTE.

As is well known, Katalin Karikó announced at the ceremony welcoming her on April 16, 2024 that she will donate a replica of her 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine to her alma mater.

The exhibition opened on the occasion of Katalin Karikó’s visit in April 2024 in the SZTE József Attila Study and Information Center (SZTE TIK) on the ground floor of the SZTE Klebelsberg Library.

In September 2024, the material of the exhibition presenting Katalin Karikó’s life and scientific achievements was supplemented with documents and tangible memories recalling the history of the University of Szeged, as well as with relics of Albert Szent-Györgyi, winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1937, such as his Nobel Prize coin and professorial gown. At the exhibition, interactive boards and displays offer more insight into the lives of the two Nobel Prize-winning researchers.

The permanent exhibition can be viewed freely during the opening hours of SZTE TIK.
