14-17. March, 2019.
The city is still ruled by frost and those heading for the main square walk among heaps of snow when the small wooden houses of Pálinka Festival start to offer, sausages, puddings and other delicious foods as well as the soul-warming fruit pálinkas. At the end of February when the snowy tranquility of dawn is still disturbed by the noise of pig killings at the Butcher Competition, expert teams compete in the tricky craft of pig processing. At the end of the several day event the experienced jury announces who made the best feast dishes, and in particular, the best stuffed cabbage. While the butchers and the family teams are busy cooking, the hungry visitors of the festival cannot be disappointed. In addition to trying delicious foods, a variety of folk music shows and pálinka tastings ensure the cheerful carnival atmosphere.
